Memdeklaro is an open-source, decentralized project focused on self-sovereign identity. The term comes from the Esperanto words mem (self) and deklaro (declaration).
The project operates as a philosophical and technical initiative that empowers individuals to assert and define their own identity entirely without centralized third parties like governments, corporate entities, or surveillance networks.
The project emphasizes individual autonomy through three primary pillars:
* Freedom of Name: Choosing how you are identified.
* Freedom of Belief: Independent thought and conviction.
* Freedom of Association: Connecting with groups or individuals by choice.
Because it rejects centralized issuance, Memdeklaro operates on a self-printed model:
* Holder-Created: Identity credentials are created and managed by the individuals themselves rather than a central authority.
* Privacy-First Design: Users utilize a privacy-focused open-source generator hosted via the project's Memdeklaro Code Repository
* Flexible Implementation: The created document or credential template can be used digitally, printed directly as a custom business card, or produced on a plastic card via third-party printing services.
* Anational Language: The framework relies on Esperanto as a neutral, universal language base to minimize national or cultural biases.
